Every family has its story, the script is handed from one generation to the next and the home is the stage upon which the stories of our lives play out; our themes are hidden in the details of our domestic scene. Every life has its drama and every story has its stage. My work as an architect and a guide has taken me deeply into these domestic scenes, discovering what is hidden in the details of the home; that every closet has its secrets and every picture has its hidden depths.

I can see the home as a theatre of life’s story, and I know it has a plan into which we can journey; a plan that holds the blueprint of our lives, that holds the keys and gives the clues to navigate along our story lines. We are all navigating the wheel of life, we are all looking for something; looking for that which is missing or not quite right, for that which will help us to feel more complete or more at home within ourselves. And so I take people on a journey; it is a self-build course, not a course in design and construction, but a personal survey of the home. We explore the secrets of the home, we find what is hidden in the details, and we move closer to the centre where there is more peace and contentment in our lives.

We place ourselves within the circle of our lives, where we define our boundaries and make our choices. Squaring the circle, we make ourselves at home, and there is one square in particular that represents our relationships and our journey through life, this is the map known as the Lo Shu Magic Square. Discovered in China thousands of years ago, I call it The Story Map – An invisible plan. It is the foundation plan for the “I Ching” - The book of Changes, one of the oldest books of wisdom in the world. This plan holds the blueprint of our lives; within the home it holds the story, it remembers who we are, and how we live our lives.
